A thermal bridge is a point in your window where the thermal resistance is lower than in the rest of the construction. This can lead to heat loss and therefore poorer insulation, a lower EPC value, etc. Aluminum windows, in particular, did not have the best reputation for insulation values in the past. Naturally, we want to avoid this, and it can be done relatively easily with the right thermal break. A thermal break is a piece of plastic in aluminum windows that prevents a thermal bridge between the inside and outside. This increases the insulation value, reduces heat loss, and consequently lowers your energy costs. Good for the planet and good for your wallet.
